Itsu, the Julian Metcalfe-led chain, is to double its presence in Oxford, MCA understands.
The 72-strong company, which already operates a site in the city’s Cornmarket Street, will also open a unit at the Westgate shopping scheme. It will be the first time the brand has opened a second site in a city or town outside of London.
Earlier this year, Metcalfe said that Itsu’s regional growth is still in its relative formative stages, and explained the evolution of the Itsu offer as it expands.
He said: “We have moved from a sushi takeaway place, to 50% hot food and eat in. Our mantra is healthy food, fresh not fried. It’s very different from what we did initially. You have to keep evolving. Sites like Reading, Brighton and Manchester are on the whole doing brilliantly.”
The company is set to make its US debut later this summer in New York’s fashion district.
Earlier this month, Travelodge announced a partnership with Itsu to supply its non-bar café hotels. The new range offers Travelodge customers the option to order from Isu’s ‘eat beautiful’ range, to their room or to take away.
Itsu products are initially being trialled in 36 Travelodge hotels. Customers will be able to purchase the items at the hotels 24 hours a day and order them online in the near future.
