InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will begin the expansion of its new restaurant concepts – Stock Burger Co and Theo’s Simple Italian, with four new openings in London before the end of the year, MCA has learnt.

The company, which launched Stock Burger Co at its Holiday Inn site in Brighton at the end of 2015, will open three further restaurants under the format in the capital this year. This will include openings at its Holiday Inn sites in Bloomsbury and on Commercial Road.

At the same time, it will open a second Theo’s Simple Italian, its concept with Theo Randall, at its Hotel Indigo in Aldgate Place.

The company opened the first Theo’s Simple Italian at its Hotel Indigo in Kensington.

Both concepts are part of IHG’s “concept in a box” programme.

Simon Burdess, vice president, food & beverage Europe at IHG, told delegates at MCA’s Supply & Innovation Summit that 70% of people that ate at the Stock Burger Co site in Brighton didn’t stay at the adjoining hotel and that 90% don’t realise it is a business connected to the Holiday Inn.

Last year MCA revealed IHG was looking to ramp up its F&B offers across its European estate with the appointment of a dedicated director of operations Restaurants and Bars, who would oversee the roll out of its “concept in a box” outlets.

IHG also manages over £300m of F&B revenue across its growing managed estate which now boasts four Michelin Starred restaurants, the iconic Café de La Paix, and Theo Randall Park Lane.

MCA research has identified consumer expectations around quality and value for money of food and drink in hotels still lags behind restaurants.
