Five Guys, the fast-growing burger concept, is on target for 30 openings in the UK this year.

Talking to MCA, managing director John Eckbert said that the group’s first transport hub site at Birmingham New Street Station was trading well and that it was ahead of projections, despite “being almost within sight of our existing Birmingham store, which is up double digit like for like sales”.

Eckbert said that the company’s first opening in France was getting closer and closer, and that the company planned to open multiple locations this year in Paris.

On opening in Spain this year, he said: “We also have a prime property under contract in Madrid – with several more in negotiations”

The group currently operates 41 sites in the UK, with openings lined up in King’s Cross, Watford, Newcastle, Gateshead and Thanet.

It recently secured a site in Aberdeen for an opening in November this year.

It is also looking at further opportunities in Exeter and Luton.
