Doubts have been cast over the future of Thali Café, the independent Indian restaurant group, after its closed its Oxford site and one of the companies attached to the business went into administration.

MCA understands that BDO has been appointed as administrators to Bristol Thali Company Ltd, which is linked to the five-strong restaurant group.

The company closed its site in Oxford’s George Street last month. The site, which opened last year, was the brand’s first outside Bristol and was meant to be a springboard for further openings nationally.

Thali Café raised £800,000 in private investment in 2017, which it said it had matched with borrowing, and planned to self-fund two openings a year after the next four.

The company, which is led by Jim Pizer, currently operates sites in Bristol’s Southville, Easton, Montpelier, Totterdown and Clifton areas.

BDO declined to comment on its involvement with the business.
