Din Tai Fung, the Taiwanese restaurant concept, is on track to open two sites in London, including a flagship site in Covent Garden.

MCA understands the company is planning to open its flagship UK debut restaurant on the Henry’s Café Bar in Henrietta Street.

It will then follow that with the already confirmed opening of a site in the Centre Point building in Tottenham Court Road.

Din Tai Fung will join a new street market concept from Sushisamba, Vapiano, Black Sheep Coffee, Pret a Manger and Rhubarb at the Grade II-listed 1960s concrete skyscraper, which is undergoing a radical refurbishment by its owner Almacantar.

Breadtalk Group, the operator of the concept, which is famous for its signature xiaolongbao, is set to open in the UK under a new joint venture.

Parent company, the Singapore-based food and beverage firm BreadTalk Group said in 2016 that the new joint venture involved itself Din Tai Fung Taiwan, its franchise owner Fairy Rise Development, as well as two shareholders from UK and Taiwan.

Din Tai Fung, known for its steamed soup dumplings, currently operates 135 restaurants in 13 markets. Of these, BreadTalk currently operates 21 restaurants in Singapore and three in Thailand.

Breadtalk Divisional chief executive William Cheng said the company was “excited” about bringing the dim sum chain to the European market for the first time.

Shelley Sandzer has been advising Din Tai Fung.
