Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), operator of the Giraffe and Ed’s Diner brands, is planning an opening for Slim Chickens, the Texas fried chicken concept, in London’s Soho, MCA understands.

The company has submitted an application to convert the Ed’s Diner on Moor Street into the concept, which it launched in the UK, in James Street, Marylebone, earlier this year.

Chief executive Tom Crowley had previously told MCA the rollout of Slim Chickens would be through acquisitions rather than conversions of existing Boparan sites.

He said he was eyeing openings for the Texas fried chicken concept in central London, before venturing into greater London, the South East, and other cities in the UK, such as Bristol, Birmingham and Leeds.

BRG announced in January that it had partnered with US chain Slim Chickens to bring the brand to the UK.

The chain, founded by Tom Gordon and Greg Smart 15 years ago, now has over 70 locations across the States, with plans to open a further 600.
