Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) has seen more than 10,000 downloads of its Flypay app in three days.

The downloads are a 255% increase on the previous week and follow the launch of its nationwide Gourmet Birthday Kitchen promotion.

The promotion, which celebrated the brand’s 15th birthday, was trending on the App Store throughout its three days and saw 500 cheeseburgers released each day between Tuesday 1 March and Thursday 3 March.

The burger giveaway was internally known as “Gone in 68 Seconds” due to the speed the 1,500 burgers were claimed over the three days and saw rewards redeemed at a speed of 22 burgers per second.

Redemption on the final day of the promotion soared to an unprecedented 500 burgers in six seconds. Over the promotional period, 31,000 people visited the website, with over half accessing the landing page from their mobile phones.

To redeem a birthday burger, customers had to download the GBK app, powered by Flypay, sign up for a unique customer ID and claim their burger at 11am each day.

A dedicated landing page was created by Flypay, allowing customers to enter their id to claim one of the 500 daily burgers up for grabs. Redemption was only via the GBK app and through a customer’s reward wallet, which then gives them a 14 day window to claim a free 6oz Cheeseburger, or swap to a Classic Chicken or Veggie Burger.

GBK senior brand manager Zoe Bloor said last year’s “Glad I Clicked” campaign with Flypay was a huge success and this year’s “Gone in 68 seconds” smashed all records.

“Flypay’s smart technology has made this initiative possible, enabling us to reach thousands of new customers, whilst also having the opportunity to reward our existing ones as part of our birthday celebrations.”

Flypay CEO Tom Weaver said they had been working in partnership with GBK for more than a year to add considerable value to their customer’s burger experience.
