Urban Village Pub Company has acquired former Epic Pub Company site, 185 Watling Street Pub & Kitchen in Towcester.

The addition of the Northamptonshire pub – its first in the county – takes Urban Village’s estate up to seven sites, spanning London and the Home Counties.

Epic Pub Company, part of the wider Rufus Hall-chaired Epic Pubs Group – which is backed by Rockpool Investments and also operates Heroic and Aspley Pubs – called in administrators FRP Advisory in September after facing “severe cashflow pressures” following a period of challenging trading.

Ian Grundy, co-founder of Urban Village Pub Company, alongside Gavin Drew, said: “I am delighted to be able to welcome 185 Watling Street and the team, into the Urban Village Pubs group, and be able to bring the site out of administration, saving some 20+ jobs in the process.

We believe this is a great opportunity in a lovely town, and have plans for a refurbishment in the New Year.”

Leisure property agent Fleurets were instructed FRP Advisory, to handle to the marketing and sale of the Epic’s three-strong freehold estate, which comprised The Golden Ball in Maidenhead, The Imperial Arms in Chelsea, alongside 185 Watling Street Pub & Kitchen. The Golden Ball was sold in October to Brakspear.
