Ultimate Leisure, the Newcastle-based late-night operator, is taking its Prohibition south with plans to open sites in London and Bristol. It will open two in the City of London, including one in Bishopsgate, plus a new venue at a waterside development in Bristol. Mark Jones, executive chairman, said: “Premium bar offers such as Prohibition, with good food, is a growing market, and less susceptible to the downturn the industry has seen in the pure late-night market.” Jones added that the expansion of Prohibition was important for Ultimate, both in terms of stretching the group’s geography and its offers. The company is also in discussions on a further three sites. Jones said: “We’re getting a very good response because of the quality of Prohibition. Landlords like what we can do for their development schemes.” Ultimate will focus its capital expenditure on the Prohibition brand, which was acquired last year from Living Ventures, although Jones did not rule out further acquisitions.
