A number of leading sector operators are set to join forces to launch a joint food hall concept, which will incorporate versions of their existing concepts.

MCA has learnt that operators including Loungers, The Alchemist, MEATLiquor, Hawksmoor and New World Trading Company are set to take space in the new “Halls of Fame” concept, which is set to launch this summer in central London.

Loungers executive chairman Alex Reilley said: “We have made no secret of our desire to open in central London and this provides us with the perfect opportunity to test our neighbourhood and community-focussed café concept in central London.”

Scott Collins, co-founder of MEATLiquor, said: “There are only 32 food halls and markets opening this year in London, so it’s the perfect time to bring something fresh to this category. We believe we have found the perfect 1,000sq ft unit in 1 April Street to make sure each operator can truly show off his offer.”

It is thought that each operator will be given c100sq ft of space, including a table and chair, for their offer and challenged to go back to basics in an attempt to win trade.

Simon Potts, managing director at The Alchemist, added: “It truly is going to be survival of the fittest, but at the end of the day, it is the consumer who will be the winner…and whoever wins the cleaning contract for the space.”

The space will also of course include the obligatory barbers, two-hole crazy golf course, DJ booth, bakery, florist, bureau de change and music label.
