Traditional Scottish pubs are struggling to attract customers as the smoking ban and cheap supermarket alcohol sales combine to strangle trade. Many bars have been forced to close and others are reducing opening hours because of the downward trend. Some landlords have also been forced to resort to what many feel are irresponsible drinks promotions, such as “all you can drink nights”, in order to lure back customers.
