Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has won a hospitality training award for its partnership with University College Birmingham.

The joint scheme won the Partnership with Industry Award at the Professional Association for Catering Education (PACE) Awards 2014.

The university has been running an on-line degree for M&B retail managers. The three-year degree comprises a total of 10 modules, studied one at a time, and include key subject areas including business economics, financial administration and human resource planning.

PACE said the award was given “for demonstrating a genuine working partnership that benefits both parties, particularly in the pub sector that so often gets overlooked”.

Paul Russell, of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events at University College Birmingham, said: “As an academic institution with a strong industry focus, we recognise how important it is for employers to upskill and retain high quality managers. This award recognises UCB’s innovative, employer-focused approach to professional development and flexible delivery of higher education qualifications.”
