Jillian MacLean, managing director of bar operator Drake & Morgan, has been named the Outstanding Entrepreneur at an awards ceremony that recognises outstanding female achievements in the UK hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sectors. The Women 1st 2011 Shine Awards was held at the Savoy Hotel last night and hosted by broadcaster Gaby Roslin. In addition, MacLean and several other well-known names from the pub and restaurant trades were included in the list of Top 100 Most Influential Women from the sectors. They included: Lynne D’Arcy, managing director of Trust Inns and chair of CBI North West; Su Cacioppo, personnel and legal director of JD Wetherspoon; British Beer & Pub Association chief executive Brigid Simmonds; and Seafood Restaurant director Jill Stein. Women 1st founder Sharon Glancy said: “Jillian MacLean is an inspiration to us all, especially to both men and women working in the licensed trade. One of her nominations stated that she was the perfect illustration of a trend-spotter and trend-setter and articulated how the future of the licensed trade truly has no glass ceiling. “I am sure Jillian, along with the other amazing women on the Top 100 listing, will inspire countless other females to join and accomplish their career aspirations in the vibrant licensed retailing industry.” The other Shine Award winners were: Rising Star - Xoe Donovan, general manager, the Longford House Beefeater and Cannock South Premier Inn; Mentor of the Year - Lou Willcock, founder and director, IndiCater; Woman of the Year - Victoria Sanders, managing director, Teletext Holidays; Lifetime Achievement - Robyn Jones OBE, chief executive, CH&Co; Small Business - ABode Hotels; Large Business - Sodexo UK & Ireland.
