Adam Marshall, chief executive of London-based bar group Grand Union, has named Bristol, Bath, Manchester and Brighton as possible target locations for the company once it has reached its target of 20-25 sites in the capital, M&C Report has learnt.

Marshall told M&C Report he believes the openings target could be reached “very quickly” following Luke Johnson’s investment in the business; the serial sector investor took a 50% stake in Grand Union last week and became its chairman.

Marshall said: “We’re now in a position to take four or five sites at a time if we can find the right opportunities. It could happen very quickly, but if it takes three or four years that’s fine too.

“We’re looking at parts of London we’re not already in, so there’s plenty of scope, and I think we can add another 10 to 15 sites here before we start looking outside. Then we’ll see if we can make the brand work in other cities, places like Bristol, Bath, Manchester and Brighton.”

Marshall said he had already had several meetings and conversations with Johnson about the progress of the business. “He obviously wants to manage his investment, and he’s been where we are now before, so he knows things that I don’t and his experience will be valuable.”
