Raff Mercurio, the ex-operations director of Oakman Inns, has acquired the first pub for his new company Neapolitan Pubs and Bars, which includes investors, who are thought to comprise some senior industry figures.
Neopolitan is hoping to open up to five sites over the next five years and intend to seek additional investors later in 2012.
The new group has taken a lease from Wellington Pub Company on The Plough in Winchmore Hill, near Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
Work has started on a £300,000 refurbishment funded entirely from the group of angel investors.
Neapolitan intends to design a unique menu based around an authentic wood fired oven purchased from Mercurio’s home town of Naples at a cost of £10,000.
Mercurio said: “I am excited about the Plough and I’m sure my experience at Oakman Inns will be beneficial in my new venture. The scheme will take a few weeks and we intend to open to the public in mid-March. The menu will reflect my Neopolitan roots but will also pay homage to the traditional English pub.”
