City Pub Group has acquired The Covent Garden pub and taken on its ninth site in Cambridge, MCA understands.

The listed pub group completed the acquisition of the former Globe in Bow Street this week from a private seller. It has also acquired the JD Wetherspoon pub, the Tivoli, in Cambridge, which has been closed since a fire in 2015.

The two will take the City Pub Group estate to more than 40 pubs and strengthens its presence in two key areas.

Chairman Clive Watson tod MCA: “Covent Garden is an area we know well – we already have the Nell Gwyne – and this is the kind of good old-fashioned boozer in a cracking location that is just right for us.

“The Tivoli is going to need a lot of work but it’s rare that a site close to the river comes up in Cambridge and there’s huge potential there.”

Paul Tallentyre, of Davis Coffer Lyons, acted on the Covent Garden deal.
