London based cocktail bar brand Be At One has appointed a head of recruitment to improve the company’s hiring system and as it looks to further expand.

Charlie Freeth joined the 17-strong group last month from a previous role at hiring specialist Core Recruitment.

“It is another step for us to improve our recruitment,” said marketing manager Sarah Swaysland. “We wanted to bring in a real specialist who understood our values and culture and is therefore able to recruit really great managers who are looking for a career in a fun growing business.”

The Be At One recruitment process is already rigorous with a four-step process post CV combing. Applicants will be given a telephone interview before being invited in to meet face-to-face. After making it through the first two rounds they will have a trial shift and then a final interview.

“The time you spend giving someone a final interview is so worthwhile and the process pays for itself when you find the right staff,” said Swaysland.

“The final interview involves presenting a business plan to Andrew Stones the operations director, it helps him to understand the candidate better and identify whether they are right for Be At One”.

Freeth will conduct a review of all of Be At One’s recruitment processes to ensure that they are fit for purpose; this will involve a meeting with each of the GMs to assess their specific bar’s needs, employee turnover and any recent exit interviews.
