Barbox, the e-business divisions of Bass Brewers Ltd, announced that it was merging with Pubserve, the Bulmers e-commerce division,

Bass Brewers, soon to be renamed Coors Brewers Limited, said the merger will create by far the most impressive online marketplace for the hospitality sector, with a joint subscriber base of 10,000 pubs, clubs and hotels and more than 30,000 customers.

David Kassler, managing director for the newly incorporated Barbox business said: "By combining the online capability of these two e-businesses with the offline sales and implementation capabilities of our parent companies we have created a single industry platform for the sector and a genuine 'one-stop-shop' for pubs, bars, clubs and hotels.

"This will hold enormous benefits for retailers and suppliers alike by enabling them to trade more easily, quickly and widely than ever before."

Tim Furse, managing director of Bulmers UK said: 'We have been very pleased by the pace and success with which Barbox and Pubserve have developed and are both encouraged and enthusiastic about the future business."

The merger means the creation of a single joint-venture company, to be called Barbox, in which the equity is initially to be shared by Coors and Bulmers. The two websites are scheduled to amalgamate by mid February with full transition to a new and integrated site by April 2002.
