Nottingham City Council has approved plans for a new leisure and retail development from intu.

The intu Broadmarsh redevelopment project will have an emphasis on eating and drinking to improve sociability.

A cinema and more restaurants will be added to the complex as part of £150m investment in the area.

The remodelled shopping centre will offer space for customers to shop, eat, relax and socialise throughout the day and evening as well as giving an improved route through the centre forming a gateway into the city centre.

The development is owned two thirds by intu and one third by Nottingham City Council, which owns the freehold of the land. The approved work forms part of a £150 million investment by intu and Nottingham City Council in the Broadmarsh area, including refurbishment of the car park and public transport and amenity improvements.

intu’s investment is part of its £1.3bn development pipeline in the UK over the next 10 years.

Martin Breeden, regional director of intu, said: “We’re delighted that our plans for intu Broadmarsh have received approval. Along with our work at intu Victoria Centre, we now have a great opportunity to create something special for Nottingham. We look forward to working together with the Council to move the project forward.”

Proposals include an increased range of places to eat, from grab-and-go to sit-down restaurants, and a multi-screen cinema.
