John Yerburgh, president of Lancahsire-based brewer and pub operator Thwaites, has died aged 91.

He was a relative of company founder Daniel Thwaites and served as chairman until 1993. He was also the husband of current chair Ann Yerburgh.

In a statement, Thwaites said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our president, John Yerburgh, who passed away last night (17 June 2014) at the age of 91. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Thwaites chief executive Rick Bailey told the Lancashire Telegraph: “John Yerburgh always cherished his family’s 200-year-old association with Blackburn throughout his long life. His long and committed involvement to Thwaites and support of the town and its people will be sorely missed.”
