Famous Brands has appointed a new management team for Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK), the c90-strong business it acquired last October for c£120m, including a new managing director – Derrian Nadauld, MCA has learnt.

Nadauld has been with Famous Brands since 2000 and has gained a wealth of experience across most of the groups leading brands. Over the last 18 years, he has been responsible for sizeable businesses in South Africa, from Debonairs Pizza, to Wimpy and previously held the chief marketing role at Famous Brands.

He joins GBK from his current role as head of Franchising and Logistics for Famous Brands in South Africa.

He is understood to be moving to the UK with his wife and daughter to take over the running of GBK.

At the same time, MCA understands that Nadauld will be joined by his Famous Brands colleague Molla Bonnet at GBK.

Bonnet, who is currently national managing executive at Wimpy, will become GBK’s new operations director.

MCA revealed at the start of November that Alasdair Murdoch was to step down as the chief executive of GBK at the end of this year.

Murdoch, the former chief executive of Pizza Hut UK, joined GBK in 2010 and helped restore the brand to growth, overseeing close to six years of like-for-like growth at over 5% per annum.

Chief operating officer Keith Bird and Karen Stone, the group’s operations director, are also set to leave the business.

MCA also understands that more changes at the business have seen Mark Davison, who has been with GBK for 10 years, promoted from project manager to development director; and Ben Green, promoted from senior supply chain manager to supply director.
