Sue Allen, the former commercial director of Thwaites, the Lancashire brewer and pub operator, has stepped down as head of commercial operations at the Heineken-owned Caledonian Brewing Company.

Allen has been with Caledonian - where she oversaw new product development, trade and brand marketing and supply chain, since the end of 2012, after leaving Thwaites in April of that year.

She has set up her own consultancy business – Alston Consultancy – focused on delivering strategic area manager training.

She had been with the Thwaites since December 2008 after 18 years at Punch Taverns, had also had a stint as interim chief executive of the Scottish Beer & Pub Association.

Her departure from Thwaites was part of a number of changes that saw Steve Magnall join the group from Greene King as managing director of its beer arm.
