Polari, the slang that thrived in Britain's gay communities during the 1950s and 60s, is making a comeback in London's trendy venues. The Soho nightclub Madame Jo Jo's is introducing it as its lingua franca and claims it is going to be "the Esperanto for clubbers". Polari was made famous by two characters in the long-running BBC radio comedy Round the Horne. According to linguistic experts, it is derived from words used by criminals, circus artists, beggars and prostitutes. The Independent on Sunday 12/12/04 page 13
