Yum! Brands plans to open 130 sites under its KFC brand across seven African countries this year, while also opening its first Pizza Hut sites in South Africa. The company, which opened 70 KFCs in 2011 in the continent, said that KFC outlets would be added in Angola, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar, this year. Last year, the brand opened restaurants in Zambia, Ghana and Kenya. Bruce Layzell, Yum! general manager of new African markets, said: “The expansion into Africa is aimed at tapping into a rising middle class market with strong economic growth potential as there is a move towards a stable, salaried job culture and away from traditional agriculture activities.”
