A Starbucks in Nottingham opened six week ago without getting planning permission first, it has emerged.

The company claimed it did not need to apply for planning permission for the outlet because it was a shop within an existing shop unit.

But the city council said permission was required because it was used as a café with people sitting inside.

Starbucks has now submitted a planning application.

It spent tens of thousands of pounds converting the former electrical retailer into its coffee bar format.
