MCA rounds-up the biggest openings stories of the past week, featuring Daisy Green, EL&N, Chopstix and more

Daisy Green, National Portrait Gallery, London

Antipodean restaurant group Daisy Green will open a site in the newly refurbished National Portrait Gallery, in London, this June.

Audrey Green, by Daisy Green Collection, will be located on the ground floor and vaults of the Weston Wing. It will have its own street-level entrance and feature photography and sculpture celebrating the West End.

As with its other locations, it will operate as a café and brunch spot during the day, before becoming a late-night bar offering small plates in the evening.

EL&N Café, Bullring, Birmingham

Hammerson has signed café and lifestyle brand EL&N Café to open at Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre later this year – its first opening in the Midlands.

The ‘Instagrammable’ café, known for its floral displays and pink décor, has taken nearly 8,000 sq ft of space for its new location which will open on New Street.

EL&N debuted in Mayfair before subsequently expanding across the Middle East as well as Continental Europe and a site in Edinburgh.

Chopstix, Brent Cross

The Asian QSR brand has opened its latest venue at North London shopping centre Brent Cross.

The new launch brings Chopstix’s total shopping centre locations to 33 and follows last month’s opening in the Lexicon Shopping Centre in Bracknell.

Mojo, Newcastle

Mojo Bars has opened its seventh site, on Newgate Street in Newcastle’s The Gate. The independent bar group, which operates in the north of England

The venue combines an extensive cocktail list with classic American food and music from the last five decades. There are also shuffleboard tables, beer pong and cocktail masterclasses.

The menu includes small bites like chicken wings and fully loaded fries, larger dishes like MOJO’s Dirty Smash Burgers, hand-stretched pizzas, and sweet treats such as waffles and pancakes.

Truffle Burger, Marylebone

Truffle Burger will open its fourth bricks and mortar site this month, in Marylebone. The new 45-cover restaurant is located next to Selfridges department store and will serve a menu that heralds truffle as its hero ingredient.

The Marylebone menu will feature the group’s ‘signature’ Truffle Burger made with 90-day aged rare-breed British beef, melted raclette cheese, home-made fig jam and black-truffle mayonnaise; and a truffle honey chicken burger with twice-coated buttermilk chicken thigh, bacon ketchup, truffle honey and whipped goat’s cheese.

Browns, Covent Garden – reopening

Mitchells & Butlers has reopened Browns Covent Garden following a £2.5m refurbishment of the site, which includes a new bar called Spey Bar, from the team behind the world-renowned Quaich Bar at Scotland’s Craigellachie Hotel.

Located upstairs at Browns, the bar will offer more than 100 different whiskies, cocktails and beers.

The restaurant’s main dining room now showcases art deco styling with luxurious furnishings and a colour palette of blues, blush pinks and fuchsia.
