The Laurel Pub Co has released a briefing document to managers and HQ staff detailing the changes it is introducing to the Hogshead chain in what is being talked of as a £100m revamp.

The new-style Hogsheads, which will be trialled on four sites, include a more "female-friendly" approach, a much bigger wine range, specialist imported beers served in branded glasses, a "significantly" upgraded food offer including more freshly-prepared dishes, and table service, something being increasingly seen in operations such as O'Neill's and the Wizard chain.

One of the first Hogsheads to get the new look is likely to be the outlet at Ludgate Circus in the heart of London. Insiders are saying if the idea is a success, it will be rolled out across the estate in 1 £100m programme.

Laurel is also believed to be looking at launching a sports bar brand, believing there is room in the market for one.
