Walter Seib, chief executive of global travel concessions operator HMSHost, has told M&C the company’s outlets at Heathrow’s Terminal 2 are now performing well after a slow start.

He said although the terminal had been open for a year it had serviced only a handful of airlines to begin with.

He said he was pleased with the recent uptick in performance at the Terminal for outlets, such as the Gorgeous Kitchen, the global cuisine restaurant led by four female British TV chefs. He said he would consider further outlets for the concept but there were currently no concrete plans for any.

He said: “We operate in airports all over the world so we understand how it is with a new terminal. It was a slow start but that also allowed us time to perfect our offer. With the Gorgeous Kitchen this was a new concept in a new terminal and it has performed really well. We even had compliments from Gordon Ramsay, which he is not famous for so we must be doing something right.”

The Gorgeous Kitchen is the brainchild of Gee Charman, Sophie Michell, Jo Pratt and Caroline Mi Li Artiss. It is described as a contemporary restaurant specialising in global cuisine made with British-grown produce.

On growth plans, Seib said: “This is something we developed for Terminal 2. If we found another venue that suited it then we would consider another.”
