London-based pub operator Felden Taverns has secured its first site outside the city centre, as it eyes an estate of six to eight outlets within the next three years. The company, which was founded by businessman Nick Bottrill and restauranteur Batu Isiksalan, has taken a free-of-tie lease on the Green Dragon in Barnet and plans to re-open it in October after a £90-100,000 refurbishment. The site was taken on a “low premium”, said Bottrill. Meanwhile, negotiations for a fourth leasehold site in St Albans, Hertfordshire, are at an “advanced stage”, he added. Bottrill said the company plans to have between six and eight sites over the next three years. Funding has come from the business partners and RBS. Felden opened its first outlet, the Union Tavern in Clerkenwell, a Punch Taverns leasehold, in 2006. The company also runs the Greene King leasehold the Wheatsheaf in Parsons Green. Bottrill, who previously worked in the water waste and waste management industries, described the style of food at Felden pubs as “modern British with a heavy French element”. The planned refurbishment at the Green Dragon includes revamping the two dining rooms, the bar and the outside area.
