Mark Selby, co-founder of Wahaca, has said that Burrito Mama, the group’s first takeaway site, was trading very well, and would look at other opening opportunities.

The first Burrito Mama opened opposite the group’s latest restaurant at One New Change last year and Selby said that its City clientele have embraced “such a different lunch time option”.

He said it is now ready to use in bespoke situations where the right opportunity presents itself, but stresses he has no intention to “enter the burrito war in London.”

Wahaca also hopes to launch a loyalty scheme with a difference in the net six months, using its pioneering pay at table phone technology currently being trialled at the Islington restaurant.

Selby said: “It is taking out the most frustrating bit of going out for a meal – getting and paying the bill. We are looking at how loyalty schemes work and to shake it up a bit.”
