Kerb has announced plans to open a food hall in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz.

The London street food organisation is to convert the IMAX cinema at the Sony Centre Centre am Potsdamer Platz into a two-storey food and drink hall, inspired by the building’s cinematic heritage.

The new 2,200 sq m venue – a follow up to its London food hall Seven Dials Market – is due to open in 2024 and will feature 12 independent Berlin food operators and four bars, serving German beer and wine.

Like in London, Kerb will develop an incubation and accelerator program for local owner-operated businesses, offering live workshops and consultations alongside a digital training platform to develop the best food talent coming out of the city.

Simon Mitchell, CEO of Kerb, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Sony Centre to develop a world-beating food hall in the heart of Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz, in a brilliant building, working alongside the very best of the Berlin food scene.

“We are looking forward to becoming a major part of the fabric of the city, supporting the wider neighbourhood development in bringing world class arts, culture and hospitality back to Potsdamer Platz.”

Speaking to MCA last November, Mitchell said he believed the authenticity of its concept is what sets Kerb apart.

“We stay true to our roots. Every business is genuinely independent, not backed by private equity or big brands.

“It isn’t big brands trying to do street food – it’s an authentic celebration of street food that’s not too polished and feels like an adventure.”

The Alchemist recently announced it would be openings its first overseas outpost in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz, which will open in spring 2023.
