The Government has held talks with leading food industry representatives in a bid to revive the Responsibility Deal.

According to M&C Report’s sister title The Grocer, health minister Jane Ellison has called on companies to explain why keys elements of the deal are struggling.

As part of this it is hoping to solve the ongoing problems with lack of sign up to some of the Deal’s key pledges, especially the one centred on calorie reduction.

At present only YO! Sushi and Pizza Hut from the branded restaurant sector have signed up to the out-of-home labelling pledge.

Eight out of the top 10 out-of-home food companies, including McDonald’s, Costa and Greggs, have not signed up to the calorie reduction pledge.

The Grocer also reveals that a new report by Public Health England which shows widespread public mistrust and a lack of understanding of the deal.
