Wingers, the Chicken Wing Company has plans to double its estate by the end of the year as it opts to expand through the franchising route.

The buttermilk fried chicken restaurant and delivery concept, founded in 2020 by brothers Amran and Dylan Sunner, has announced its launch as a franchise with ambitions to open 50 new sites in the next five years.

Co-founder Amran Sunner tells MCA that the pipeline is deal-led; however, its strategy is to build out from its Midlands base, reaching 10 sites by the end of 2023.

“It is mainly opportunity led, but at the same time, we don’t want to just open in Glasgow tomorrow all of a sudden.”

“We always think about footfall, that’s vital for us.”

As the brand grows rapidly, it will continue to be “very much a family environment at Wingers.”

“We want to make sure as we grow, the backbone of the business is really strong and the whole operation is as slick as possible for the franchisees”, Sunner says.

He believes the simplicity of the Wingers’ model, which currently operates five restaurants in the Midlands, makes it an easy brand to replicate through this route.

“We have got a very limited menu. We focus on two cuts of meat which are wings and tenders, and we simply want to do them well.

“The operation that we run here is well thought out. It’s not complicated so you don’t need to be a chef to work in a Wingers or operate one.”

Speaking on how the chicken wing concept can find a gap in a busy market, Sunner says it is all about freshness.

“KFC has always been the benchmark in the UK in the fried chicken game but we want to create a more premium product.  We’ve obviously got a much simpler menu, but we’ve got a different style of how we present it.

“We bread our chicken fresh to order, and we never use anything frozen. We just do things well.

Anthony Round, Business Development, Wingers comments, “I’ve worked in the QSR industry for well over 25 years and the restaurant concept and team behind Wingers are impressive.

“Their passion, commitment and knowledge will ensure this franchise opportunity will fly. I am now responsible for onboarding new franchisees to help develop the pipeline of franchised stores further and push this exciting brand to great heights.

“Already we have franchisees wishing to open their second sites and keen to develop into true multi-site operators. Our aim is to provide a great return on investment for our franchisees and we work closely with them to minimise costs and maximise profits to help them achieve this.”
