KFC has recorded an 7% increase in system sales within its UK & Ireland division for the first quarter ended 31 March 2022.

Sales in the UK market currently making up 8% of the global fast food chain’s global revenue, compared to China which has a 27% share and the US which has a 17% share of system sales.

Announcing its results, parent company Yum! Brands said worldwide system sales for the group, excluding foreign currency translation, 8%, made up of 9% growth at KFC, 8% at Taco Bell and 3% at Pizza Hut.

Taco Bell’s international sales grew by 37%, while Pizza Hut Europe achieved growth of 28% in the first quarter.

David Gibbs, CEO, said “Our system sales grew 8% despite the difficult operating environment, a testament to the demand for our iconic brands and the unmatched operating capabilities of our world-class franchise partners.

“We set a Q1 development record, opening nearly 1,000 gross units. Momentum in our digital sales continued in the first quarter as a result of both continued system sales growth and digital mix expansion, reaching a Q1 record of approximately $6 billion.”

Sales from digital channels now make up 40% of total sales – up 15% year-on-year.
