Five Guys, the popular US burger chain, has secured a further site in London, after acquiring the lease of The Swift pub in Putney from Fuller’s, M&C understands.

A Fuller’s spokesperson told M&C: “Despite a change in concept, trade at the site has not met our expectations in recent years and we have therefore decided to assign our lease to Five Guys, whose style of operation we feel will better suit this particular location.”

The 28-strong Five Guys, which will open its latest site next week in Duncan Street, Leeds, is believed to also be in advanced talks on sites in Dundee, Liverpool, Leicester, Swansea and Watford.

The group, which recently broke through the 1,000-employee mark in the UK, is set to make its debut in Continental Europe in Paris, in the first quarter of next year.

It is set to secure a 400-cover site in the French capital.

The company will then look to follow this with launches in Germany and Spain, depending on the right sites becoming available.

It has further openings in Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Southampton secured.

It hopes to add 22 units in total across the country this year.
