Crate Brewery, the Hackney Wick-based business, has become the latest independent craft brewer to seek new funding to grow.

MCA understands that the company, which was founded in 2012 by Neil Hinchley along with business partners, siblings Jess and Tom Seaton, has appointed Grant Thornton to assess its funding options.

Crate includes the Hackney Wick brewery plus a bar and pizzeria.

In the first six months of production, it made 60,000 litres of beer. Now in 2017, it produced half a million litres every six months.

Last month, independent craft brewery The Five Points Brewing Co launched its first round of crowdfunding, on Crowdcube, aiming to raise £750k, as it looks to open its first taproom at Pembury Tavern.

It has so far raised just under £1.2m from 1,623 investors.
