Chapel Down, the wine maker, has reported a 29% rise in turnover to £4.8m in the year to 31 December 2012.

Pre-tax profits increased 90% to £413,829 and operating profits grew 49% to £548,074.

The company said its sparkling wine volumes were up 35% and sales of its “curious” range of beers grew 242%.

Chairman Paul Brett said: “At the time of our half-year results, I was delighted to report that despite an extremely challenging trading environment, your company continued to thrive.

“That performance has been sustained, and indeed could have been even better had we not taken the decision to withhold growth in sales of our wines to smooth our stocks as a result of a low 2012 harvest.”
