Underdog Restaurants, the operator of Hawksmoor, the high-end steak restaurant chain, saw underlying EBITDA for the year to the end of 2013 climb from £2.7m to £4.8m.

The group, which will open its first regional site in Manchester, near Spinningfields next year, saw turnover increase from £18.1m to £25.6m during the year, while pre-tax profit climbed to £3.7m up from £1.35m.

The Graphite Capital-backed group said: “The primary drivers of the improved performance (came) from strong like-for-like sales in the existing restaurants together with the inclusion of a full-year trading for the restaurant in Air Street which opened in late 2012. The directors expect the results to continue to reflect the business’s growing popularity and successful branding.”

Hawksmoor currently operates six sites in London, including one under new concept Foxlow. The operator won the Best Company award at this year’s Retailers’ Retailer Award.
