Online restaurant delivery platform Deliveroo plans to launch into Australia by the end of the year as well as East Asia and the Middle East, M&C has learnt.

The group has completed Series C fundraising for £45m to fuel its international expansion and strengthen its network in the UK.

Daniel Warne, managing director of Deliveroo in the UK said: “There’s still some work to do with expansion into regional towns including Bath, York, Sheffield, Swansea, Aberdeen and Newcastle.

“There’s still a lot of work to do in the UK on the restaurant partnership side. We’ve added Las Iguanas and Wagamama’s so there’s only a handful of chains we are not working with.”

The regional expansion plans come ahead of launching a broad-based marketing campaign, which Warne said would involve a television campaign in Q4 2015 or Q1 2016.

“We’ve got to remember that the UK is the core business and delivers huge volumes of overall sales; we are definitely not going to drop the ball on that.”

He added the marketplace is less competitive than it was now that Deliveroo has established a dominant presence in London.

Beyond the UK, the group is planning to introduce its service into the Middle East with a “fairly gun-ho” launch in the next couple of months followed by East Asia and Australia by the end of the year.

He said progression into European marketplaces is going well so far with strong base in Paris as well as teams established in Munich, Berlin and Hamburg.

Teams are being built up in the Netherlands and Belgium to launch shortly. Europe-wide, Warne said there has been real receptiveness to the service.

A fourth round of fundraising has not been ruled out by Deliveroo to further accelerate its plans to reach more global regions.
