The Sultan of Brunei has been asked to intervene in a case brought by British property tycoon Mark Burby, who claims two Brunei royals owe him £50m for a failed scheme to launch a chain of coffee shops in the UK.
The two royals are Pengiran Ayub and his wife Damit.
A British Virgin Island judge ordered the couple to pay £50m damages to Burby last year after ruling they had reneged on the coffee shop deal but they failed to comply with the order to lodge a £10m deposit with the court.
Burby specialises in developing leisure parks and sports complexes.
His shareholding in a company that owns the British franchise rights to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, first led him into contact with the Brunei royal family.
