Pan-Asian dishes have grown their share across chain restaurant menus, with 2.9% of all main dishes tagged as such, up from 2.4% in spring/summer 2019, according to Lumina Intelligence’s latest Menu Tracker analysis.

Of those dishes now making it onto menus, the trend is for a greater number of lighter options, as well as vegan and vegetarian dishes, which both correlate to current consumer trends around healthier and plant-based eating.

Classic pan-Asian dishes such as curries and stir-fries are seeing a decline, down 3.9ppts and 0.6ppts, respectively, over the past two years, but still retain a high share of main items. Dumplings have also seen a significant decline, albeit from a smaller base, down 7.4ppts.

Meanwhile soups have grown to represent 14.4% of all pan-Asian main dishes – up 3.4ppts from spring/summer 2019.
