One in ten Brits drink five cups of coffee a day and spends up to £3,250 a year on their caffeine fix, a new study by online retailer Ocado shows. The average coffee drinker gets through a more modest three cups each day, costing £1,950, but the research highlights that coffee is fast overtaking tea as our national drink. A quarter of us say we now like to kick off the day with a cappuccino, while a third drink a latte in the mornings. Ocado also highlighted a rise of 55% in the sales of coffee filters, beans and premium coffees. 40% of Brits also admitted to buying expensive coffee machines so that they can make their own coffee’s at home.
