Whitbread plans to dramatically cut the number of Café Rouge outlets as part of a strategic review. Café Rouge sites are likely to be sold or rebranded. Two-thirds of the Beefeater outlets are also expected to be renamed. Secondary concepts like Bella Pasta and Mamma Amalfi could be axed.

Critics believe Whitbread overpaid for Café Rouge when it bought the chain in 1996 and has since over-expanded it. The Dome café chain is expected to be sold as part a £2bn disposal of the pubs division.
