The Star Inn in Harome, North Yorkshire, gets 9 out of 10 from The Daily Telegraph reviewer who finds that “everything about it charms”, particularly the pan-roast roe deer which is “quite the juiciest venison I’ve devoured”. Tracey MacLeod at The Independent says Corrigan’s Mayfair is “miraculously good”. Chef Richard Corrigan has come up with a long menu of imaginative British dishes, with the occasional Continental twist, which abounds with game, wild fish and seasonal ingredients. Restaurants and cafes at Westfield, the giant shopping mall in London, are visited by The Times reviewer, including Sacred, where he drinks an unremarkable cappuccino, Mexican restaurant Wahaca where he has a “decent lunchtime snack” and the Meat & Wine Co, which serves up a pretty good rib-eye but is let down by poorly trained waiting staff. Belle House in Pershore, Worcestershire, is awarded six out of 10 after reviewer Matthew Norman discovers it is a mixed bag. Starters ranged from the good to the dreadful while the aura was “a touch desultory” and the main courses were “technically fine but a bit joyless”. However, three brilliant puds help to redeem the meal. Locke-Ober in Boston is the subject of the Financial Times’ review where Nicholas Lander samples JFK’s lobster stew and Ceasar salad along with the best macaroons he has ever encountered. He also dines at Jasper White’s Summer Shack – a patented “lobster laboratory” where the chef can cook perfect shellfish.
