The founder of restaurant review and bookings site, Zomato, has said the group plans to scale back its physical presence in the UK.

Speaking to analysts chief executive Deepinder Goyal said Zomato would take a “remote management” approach to its UK arm, while concentrating funds and time on the 14 countries where it has a leading position.

He said that both the UK and US were not “focus markets” for Somato and that it was proving expensive to reach the tipping point where their presence could be monetized.

It means the points of sale will continue to operate but all functions will be run from Zomato’s Indian HQ rather than by staff on the ground.
