Mobile payment platform Velocity has launched a payment app which it claims has increased customer spend at bars and restaurants

The app allows customers to book tables and pay for food and drinks from their phone while allowing guests to earn and redeem points by providing feedback on venues and rating experiences with star.

The company said: ”Velocity is increasing revenues for its restaurant partners by 11%. It makes dining out more personal and efficient for both the customer and restaurant, by eliminating time spent waiting for the bill, making staff more productive, increasing footfall and providing venues with rich insights into customer preferences.”

The revenue increase was the result of a trial at the end of 2014 in a number of London restaurants and bars, which the group said also resulted in 40% more tips and higher spend per head in both bars and restaurants.
