Morrisons has introduced 50 coffee barista bars to its estate over the past year.

In its update for the 53 weeks to 4 February the supermarket chain said it had completed the modernisation of almost all its cafés, “providing a brighter and more contemporary look and feel for customers”.

It is part of the company’s strategy to create “popular and useful services”, which has also seen it refresh the offers at its Morrisons Daily stores on forecourts.

The group said that in its quest to be more competitive, it’s food-to-go range was leading to multi-year growth.

Overall the company produced group like-for-like sales growth of 2.8%, ex-fuel/ex-VAT with revenue up 5.8% to £17.3bn.
