Matthew Clark, the nationwide drinks supplier to the on-trade, has seen sales of wine increase by 7% in the face of market-wide decline of 13% over the past 12 months to January 2014.
In this period, the wholesaler has been focusing on honing its wine list to concentrate on offering high quality and exciting wines to the UK on-trade, including the addition of a series of smaller, boutique agencies from around the world. These include Chapel Down, Te Karainga, Bai Gorri and Herencia Altés.
“This growth in wine value sales proves that our decision to focus on quality was the right one. We wanted to change perceptions of Matthew Clark and prove to people that we are more than just a reliable wine wholesaler,” said Ian Smith, commercial director at Matthew Clark.
