Staffordshire brewer and pub operator has appointed its first brewery director, M&C understands.

Neil Bain, the head brewer of Norfolk-based Woodfordes, will take up the role at the end of July. He will take responsibility for all brewing and distribution operations.

Steve Nuttall, managing director of Joule’s, said: “This new role will address our requirement to invest further in our brewery, our brewing and organisation as we strive to be a leading light in the craft brewing field. “

Nuttall and Bain worked together at Highgate Brewery, where they led a management buyout in 1995.

Nuttall said: “Neil, a master brewer, shares my own belief in well balanced naturally brewed beer without compromise. He is a great talent and will move our brewing capability to a new level along with Head Brewer Mark Leedham, also a master brewer.

“This new appointment shows our absolute and uncompromising commitment to beer quality of the very highest standard. We have, since the brewery was commissioned, been improving year on year, this appointment will enable us to move to a new level both in brewing but also in our organisation as we strive to brew the finest beer and provide exemplary service.”
