Heineken has agreed to become the authorised importer and distributor of Guinness in Russia. Heineken will begin production of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout under licence in a St Petersburg brewery before July this year. Financial terms of the deal have not been revealed. Heineken has said that it plans to expand through Russia and capitalise on the growing market for international branded beers. "We really want to expand autonomously and through acquisitions in Russia," Heineken said. Last year the Dutch brewer said it was buying West Siberia's Sobol Beer brewery, which has production capacity of 1.2m hectolitres, and also acquired Central European Brewing Company and Volga Brewery.
